The floods of 28 to 30 November 2025, during Cyclone Ditwah, hit Al Madeena Primary School in Deewaragama, Thambala, Polonnaruwa. More than 360 of its 427 students, in Grades 1 to 5, were affected. According to the school, this was the first support they received after the disaster.
DreamSpace Academy gave a full set of learning materials to every student, so that no child was singled out. Each student received:
- a maths set
- a water bottle
- a lunch box
- three 160-page exercise books
- two 80-page exercise books
- two pencils
- a small pouch
The Thambala Undergraduate Association identified the school’s needs and brought the request to the organisers. DreamSpace Academy bought the supplies, dealt with the suppliers, arranged transport and ran the work on the ground. The Oddamavadi Central College 2016 O/L Student Union arranged and paid for all transport, from Colombo to Batticaloa and on to Polonnaruwa, and led the packing and distribution. The school confirmed in writing on 26 December 2025 that the packs for all 427 students had arrived.
Funding and spending
Ocean Stars Trust (UK) funded the project with LKR 500,000, given through DreamSpace Academy and spent only on the learning materials. The materials cost LKR 499,163 in all, about LKR 1,169 for each student’s set.
