Event, 2024

Travelling History Museum

An eight-day exhibition on the district's recent history, the largest-reach event on record.

When: 9 July 2024
Where: Batticaloa
Format: Exhibition, eight days
Who was there: more than six thousand people reached, as recorded
With: Search for Common Ground

“It’s About Time: Travelling History Museum” came to Devanayagam Hall in Batticaloa from 9 to 16 July 2024. DreamSpace Academy coordinated it for Search for Common Ground.

The museum asks visitors to reflect critically on Sri Lanka’s recent history, to acknowledge that there are multiple narratives of it, and to close the gap between official accounts and lived ones.

It is the largest-reach event in the record. It was also sensitive: an exhibition about contested history, in a district where people lived that history, run by an organisation that has to keep working with everyone in it afterwards.
