Opening, 2024

MakerSpace Batticaloa launches

The first dedicated makerspace in the district opened under its own name.

DreamSpace Academy unveiled MakerSpace Batticaloa in August 2024 as the first dedicated makerspace in the district: hands-on workshops in robotics, 3D design, coding and more, built around challenges taken from real problems in the community.

Within days the academy was recruiting trainers in electronics, coding, 3D printing, laser cutting, woodworking and metalworking.

The academy has run making activities since 2019. In 2024 the making got its own space, its own name and its own staff. The Canadian High Commissioner came back three weeks later to see it.
