The Music Lab team joined “Yaazh Gaanam: Sounds of the South” at the Muttraveli Grounds beside Jaffna Fort in October 2023. The composer Santhosh Narayanan’s open-air concert was open to the public, featured independent artists from India and Sri Lanka, and was financed by the Lyca founder Subaskaran Allirajah.
Dinoj Mahendranathan and Saju performed. The team’s own record of the night puts the audience at over 80,000; press reports described tens of thousands. It is the largest stage the academy’s work has reached.
Two years earlier Dinoj Mahendranathan was running a three-day music workshop in a bamboo shelter during Dinacon.
