Living Architecture

Two workshops on growing buildings from trees, with the root bridges of Meghalaya as the precedent.

When: 20 April 2023
Where: Batticaloa
Format: Workshops, two

DreamSpace Academy ran two workshops, on 20 April and 3 May 2023, on whether living architecture could work here: houses, and eventually whole settlements, grown rather than built, with the root bridges of Meghalaya in India as the precedent.

The second session covered a circular staircase built around a palmyra tree, and how to attach steps to a living trunk without killing it.

A participant recorded a testimonial about what the workshop had changed for him.
