Eleven social-innovation ideas received seed grants at the Sarvodaya Education Development Centre in Batticaloa on 8 November 2021, with the District Secretary of Batticaloa, K. Karunakaran, taking part.
The programme was run by Sarvodaya Shanthi Sena Sansadaya and funded by UNDP Sri Lanka. It backed ideas that could pay their own way, bring communities together and tackle the causes of violent extremism. DreamSpace Academy joined as the incubator, supporting the teams as they developed their ideas.
The teams were introduced publicly later that month. Virtual workshops followed on branding in December and on finance and accounting for startups shortly after.
